In the center is a recess for an approximately 1mm round point back stone. I believe these are mainly used to make a tiny stone look larger. The settings have flat backs.

These are vintage stone settings and SOME HAVE VERY THIN PRONGS AND RINGS. The prongs and the rings on some of these are thin and break off easily. We have adjusted the number of settings in each lot to compensate for any bad or broken pieces.
